Just launched: Green Hotels, a website devoted to green hotels and green travel in Greece. It’s said to be the first network of Greek eco-hotels, and it ranks lodgings based on criteria proposed by the International Tourism Partnership (ITP) as well as existing infrastructure and opportunities in the Greek tourism sector.
Participating properties are evaluated on how well they save water, reduce waste, recycle, use renewable energy and minimize energy use, offer organic and local products to guests and create an “environmental culture” for staff and guest.
A booking engine will be added to the site soon.
“Every day,” notes Green Hotel’s Sotiris Milonas, “more and more hotels in Greece are embracing green tourism and are establishing an environmental management system.”
